> Regarding the commentary's statement, "Four, the life-possessor (jīva)": The explanatory text is from the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa. That treatise states in full: "Because the life-faculty is accomplished, it is called the long-lived one (āyuṣmat) and the life-possessor (jīva)." Explication: This treatise explains both the "long-lived one" and "life-possessor" in the sūtra simultaneously, because the substance of the life-faculty is just longevity, as already seen in the chapter "Clarifying Doubts." Vasubandhu explains, "Because the life-faculty of a single retribution is unbroken." The treatise verse states, "Unbroken until life abides." The Dayun explains: This is the life-faculty. The Yogācārabhūmi also explains these two dharmas together.
