> Regarding the commentary's statement, "Seven, 'person' (manuṣya) refers to that which is endowed with spirit in contrast to earth and wood": These are the words of Master Daosheng of Guanzhong, representing the meaning of the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa. In the Yogācārabhūmi it is named "puruṣa" (person/man), which is the sixth among the seventeen marks. That treatise states, "As for 'nurturer' (poṣa), it means increasing the karma of future existence, being able to perform all actions of a puruṣa." Its commentary explains, "As for 'nurturer', it means causing flourishing without interruption. Karma brings about results and possesses the function of a puruṣa, inexhaustible into the future; hence it is called 'nurturer'." Explication: It explains puruṣa and nurturer together, and it is cited here for convenience of text.
