> Regarding the commentary's phrase "all the above are pure patience": the treatise states: "There are briefly ten kinds: namely, when bodhisattvas encounter disadvantageous actions, injury, affliction, or defiance caused by others, they never retaliate (1); nor do they become indignant in thought (2); nor do they harbor resentment or grudge (3); their aspirational continuity is constantly present before them, wishing to benefit others without distinction between earlier and later, not giving up after benefiting once (4); toward those who harbor resentment, they themselves give rise to repentance and apologies, never letting the other person become exhausted and only then accepting an apology (5); regarding what they cannot bear, they achieve superior and intense shame and conscience (6); relying on forbearance, they achieve superior and intense love and respect toward the Great Master (7); relying on not harming sentient beings, they achieve intense pity, affection, and joy toward sentient beings (8); because all non-patience and its accompanying factors are entirely severed (9); they are free from desire of the desire realm (10). By these ten characteristics, one should know that the patience practiced by bodhisattvas is pure and undefiled." Explanation: They cannot be matched individually; the general meaning is the same as the sūtra.
