> Regarding the Commentary's text from 'Third, the obstacles to be severed' downwards, within it there are three: first, a general indication; second, from 'Meaning the two obstacles' downwards, clarifying the severance of obstacles; third, clarifying the severance of delusions. In the second part, he first raises the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi's explanation, and afterward, from 'This term "ordinary worldling"' downwards, cites the Liang treatise for discernment. In the former, the intent clarifies that based on the seeds of the discriminative obstacle, the obstacle of the nature of ordinary worldlings is established. 'Discriminative' distinguishes it from the innate; 'seeds' distinguishes it from active manifestations. The term 'discriminative' here is still broad. But the root treatise states: 'The obstacle of the self-characteristic of ordinary worldlings, knowing that it is grasping at a self.' Below, the two delusions are named the delusion of grasping at self and dharmas; that treatise's commentary states: 'Although severed on the first ground, in reality it permeates both obstacles; yet the obstacle of the nature of ordinary worldlings primarily takes cognizable \[objects\], stating that the ten non-enlightenments are non-defiled activities.' In the Commentary, 'From the above, in terms of what can arise' downwards is third: explaining the severance of the two delusions. The text has three parts: first, generating it through meaning; second, from 'Due to this, on the first ground' downwards, citing the treatise to explain directly; third, the meaning of severance. 'As before' downwards concludes and indicates the meaning of severance. In the second part, the statement 'severing the two delusions' refers to active manifestations and their coarse heaviness. That treatise's commentary states: 'Manifesting those two kinds.' The subsequent text explains: 'Or the incapacity produced by the two, just as entering the two emptinesses is said to sever the root of suffering. Although the root of suffering to be severed is neither active manifestation nor seed, it is named coarse heaviness; here too it should be like this. That word "coarse heaviness" should also be explained by analogy.'
