> Regarding the Commentary's statement "the Nirvāṇa\[-sūtra\] takes desire and so on": that is, in the second roll of the sūtra, Cunda conversely instructs Mañjuśrī to reveal the unconditioned nature of the Buddha. The parable says: for instance, a poor woman stays at someone else's guest-house and gives birth to a son. The master of the guest-house drives them away and expels them. Holding and carrying this child, she wishes to go to another country. Along the way she encounters evil wind and rain, cold and bitter suffering arriving together, and is bitten and eaten by gnats, mosquitoes, wasps, and venomous insects. Sengzong says: "Being broken down and opposed by heterodox teachings is compared to the wind and rain, not yet escaping affliction. Devouring roots of goodness is compared to venomous snakes and insects." The Commentary's intention now means: the sūtra uses the six destinies to allegorize the river and so on, which is the river of the fruit. One should take desire and so on as allegories for the venomous insects, following \[Seng\]zong's explanation. The treatise has no separate explanation, so it cites an alternative interpretation.
