> Regarding the commentary's phrase "As for that which is abandoned": third, abandoning the obstacles. First, it adduces the root division, whose terms are fully complete. Second, citing the \*Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi\* to establish the names, the general explanation of meaning is fully complete. In that treatise, it first explains the obstacles and then explains the delusions. Among the obstacles, forgetting the three wisdoms is called dullness and obscurity. The specific obstacles to the three wisdoms are as detailed below under the delusions; here they are only spoken of generally. Later, from "Due to this" onward, it explains the severing of the two delusions. First, the delusion of desire and greed: this only briefly adduces the delusion. A question might be asked: Above, the cognitive obstacle was indicated; how can the affliction of desire and greed be adduced now? Answer: That treatise subsequently says: "Because in the past it frequently accompanied desire and greed, it is named the delusion of desire and greed. Now, having attained superior concentration and that which is produced by cultivation, since that \[delusion\] is permanently severed, desire and greed are accordingly subdued, for this \[desire and greed\] has operated relying upon that \[delusion\] since beginningless time." In explanation: Because of desire and greed, one mostly abides in distraction; hence it obstructs concentration and the wisdom born of cultivation. Because this desire and greed operates relying upon the obstacle, when the obstacle is exhausted, desire is eliminated.
