> Regarding the commentary's "How is it withered and flourishing?" and so forth: this is the second part, which jointly explains the three contemplations in terms of withered and flourishing. In this there are two: first, specifically explaining mindfulness of the body; second, from "the remaining three" downward, concluding and generalizing. In the former there are also two: first, clarifying that withered and flourishing manifest the empty and the provisional; second, from "Therefore, the eight inversions are doubly broken" downward, explaining that the intermediate between them is the meaning of the Middle Way. In the former of these there are also two: first, raising the diseases to be treated; second, from "Now contemplating that the seeds of form are empty" downward, clarifying the dharma-medicines capable of curing them. As for the statement "Provisional cognition is constantly pure": because in the provisional contemplation one discerns names and characteristics, one knows that the impurity of ordinary beings is falsely imputed as purity; the two vehicles consider it real and falsely consider it impure; now, relying on the Buddha's wisdom, as in Śikhaṇḍin's vision, it is therefore called "constantly pure." In \[explaining\] the Middle Way there are two: first, concluding the preceding to introduce the following, which is explaining the Middle by doubly illuminating; second, from "contemplating the original limit of form" downward, explaining the Middle by doubly refuting. The rest can be known.
