> As for the Commentary saying, "three roots and three derivatives": the derivatives are the branches. The view of self is the 'I'; whether the 'I' existed or did not exist in the past is therefore called eternalist view. Whether the 'I' will act or not act in the future generates annihilationist view. Therefore extreme view is said to derive from self-view. As for "wrong view": repudiating the non-existence of cause and effect; because one is hesitant and undecided regarding the principle of the truths, one subsequently repudiates them as non-existent; therefore wrong view is said to derive from the net of doubt. Since one conceives what is not a cause to be a cause, one definitely grasps it as real; therefore view-attachment is said to derive from attachment to precepts and vows. Once the root is severed, the branches naturally perish. Furthermore, regarding the term "derivatives": the three roots are called "turning," like a hand turning a wheel; the three derivatives are called "following," like the wheel following the hand.
