> Regarding the Commentary's line beginning with "Now, with ignorance conditioning formative action": second, adducing the present sūtra passage to explain the meaning of receiving retribution. Within this there are two parts: first, explaining directly; second, concluding with a response to the external objection. For the first: contrasting with the previous three \[kinds of karma that\] do not receive retribution. "'Now, with ignorance conditioning formative action' reveals that it has already been performed": this sets apart the first \[kind\], karma not yet performed. Since it is formative action initiated by ignorance, this formative action must certainly be capable of inducing future retribution; hence it is not karma of which one previously was unmindful.
