> Regarding the Commentary's 'Therefore, taking whichever one among the three forms of giving and so forth,' Master Yuan states: 'In giving, there is only the giving of Dharma. In morality, there are only the moral precepts of restraint; within the moral precepts of restraint there are three kinds of detachment: causal detachment, antidote detachment, and resultant conduct detachment. Here, there is only causal detachment, because it eradicates defilement. Śīla is translated here as "cooling." For patience, it only explains \[bearing\] harm by others; for vigor, it only clarifies dhyāna that gathers goodness; for meditative absorption, it only clarifies generating virtuous qualities; for prajñā, it only clarifies wisdom of the ultimate truth.' However, examining the sūtra text, the categories of meaning are easily sought, which is why it says 'can be known.' The subsequent four perfections are explained by the Śāstra itself.
