> Regarding the commentary's statement, "The subtle is the dust penetrating gold": the Kośa says, "An atomic particle, subtle dust, gold dust, water dust, / hare, sheep, ox, and sunbeam dust, / nit, louse, barley, and finger-joint: / each subsequent one increases sevenfold." Sunbeam dust is the coarsest among dusts. Since no single atomic particle abides independently, the first is not mentioned. And seven atomic particles make one subtle dust; this is also the most subtle, yet its name is general, so the third, the dust penetrating gold, is taken as subtle. Stating "within a single dust particle multiple phenomena are contained": the primary elements and secondary elements appear in a single aggregate, which must possess solidity, moisture, heat, and motility, as well as visible matter, odor, taste, and tangibility; hence it says "multiple phenomena."
