> Regarding the Commentary's statement, "The ten cognitions of the small vehicle..." and so forth: these are the dharmic, subsequent, four truths, others' minds, worldly, and the cognitions of exhaustion and non-arising, which were already explained before. "The seventy-seven of the intermediate vehicle": as detailed in the notes on the sixth bhūmi. The meanings of shared and unshared have already been frequently explained previously. "The latter two pervade the distinctions cultivated and accomplished across the three vehicles": these are learning and non-learning. In the preceding \[discussion of\] practice and fruit, although the intermediate vehicle was treated in terms of learning and non-learning, the intention was on practice and fruit; because there are also fruits within the learning of the small vehicle, and within stage after stage of the Great Vehicle fruits may also be found, the Commentary hitherto merely spoke of them in a general manner. Furthermore, these \[categories of\] learning and so forth comprise roughly three approaches: First, in terms of principle, the three vehicles study together: those who have not yet realized are called learners; those who have realized are non-learners; ordinary worldlings are neither learners nor non-learners. Second, viewing the small in comparison to the great, the two vehicles are also neither learners nor non-learners in relation to the great. Third, in terms of virtues cultivated and accomplished, the meaning is identical to the first approach. Here, clarifying in terms of cognition, the Commentary merely says, "the distinctions cultivated and accomplished".
