> Regarding the Commentary's phrase 'Sixth, capacity to universally receive the characteristics of form': this is the treatise text explaining the sūtra, displaying the characteristics of physical form. The Commentary's text is clear. Yet the treatise's sūtra text says: 'displaying the distinct characteristics of the physical body,' meaning: it can display forms yet is distinct from forms. What was said above about being non-distinct applied merely to the essence of space. As Master Yuan said: 'It means that dependent on form images, space has distinctions, such as space inside a house, space outside a house, and so on.' This, however, uses form to display space, which does not accord with the present sūtra's meaning that space can display forms.
