The former part has five \[sections\]: first, a general indication; second, from 'The treatise states' down, citing a treatise as authority; third, from 'Speaking of the four teachings' down, directly clarifying what he establishes; fourth, from 'The first teaching refers to' down, distinctively demonstrating their characteristics; and fifth, from 'As extensively \[detailed in\]' down, concluding the extensive by following the abridged. That commentary also clarifies: these established teachings demonstrate the expounding \[teachings\] based on the expounded dharmatā. In the first teaching, the dharmatā is completely hidden; in the next, the dharmatā is partially revealed; in the third, it is partially hidden; and in the fourth, it is completely revealed. Although the dharmatā is one, its manifestations differ, hence forming four. If categorized by vehicles, the second teaching is the Hīnayāna, the third is the Mahāyāna within the three vehicles, and the fourth is the One Vehicle.
