> Regarding the commentary's "Upāsakaśīla" onward: this is the fifth, quoting the Upāsakaśīla-sūtra and the Bodhisattvabhūmi as establishing two natures, in order to establish the preceding absence of nature. Therefore that treatise says: "Gotras are of two kinds: first, having gotra; second, lacking gotra." That treatise explains: "Gotra refers to the beginningless, natural excellence of the six sense bases, continuing in succession," and so forth. And saying "it also says" is completely identical with the Laṅkāvatāra; because it did not previously quote that sūtra's explanation, it now explains it by analogy, not wishing to multiply words.
