> Sixth is the tolerance of phenomena being like a dream. Under the Commentary's statement, "Now, opening up this meaning of the dream," the Commentary's text has two parts: first opening up the meaning, and then explaining the text. In the former part, regarding the Commentary's statement, "First, the basis refers to the awakened mind as a simile for the fundamental consciousness": if there were nothing to be perfumed, there would be no avidyā and so forth. It can also serve as a simile for the Tathāgatagarbha; the reason it is used as a simile for the fundamental consciousness is that this is accepted by all traditions, whereas the Faxiang tradition explains that the Tathāgatagarbha does not receive perfuming.
