> Regarding the commentary's "Meaning that non-existence is also non-existent": the sūtra has two lines, saying "neither existent nor non-existent." Here it specifically explains the line "not non-existent": "not existent" means non-existent, and now it also dispels that non-existence, hence it says "neither existent nor non-existent," which means non-existence is also non-existent. The preceding line is easy, so it is not explained. Master Rui says: "Sentient beings are like an illusion, / neither existent nor real. / Those who do not comprehend this / revolve like a chariot wheel. / Understand that dharmas are pure, / without self and without person; / when the multitude of defilements is extinguished, / it is like the sun without clouds."
