> Regarding the Commentary's statement, "Therefore the Jin sūtra says: 'giving rise to a single mind of anger...'" etc.: because the translator of the present sūtra, in order to make the text flow, caused people to misunderstand, three sūtras are cited to rectify its meaning. That is, meditation practitioners, hearing the sūtra say that not seeing dharmas is a great fault, then claim that evil is fundamentally empty in its nature, which is why it is said to not be seen, and that seeing it is conceptual proliferation. Although this is correct principle, it does not accord with the present sūtra; therefore, three sūtras are cited to clarify that no evil surpasses this, which is what is meant by not seeing it as existing. The Vinayaviniścaya consists of only one fascicle. Upāli addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honoured One! If there are those who violate the precepts with a mind associated with desire, or violate the precepts with a mind associated with anger, or violate the precepts with a mind associated with ignorance, which of these is the heaviest?" The Buddha said: "If there is a bodhisattva who, with a mind associated with desire as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, violates the precepts, or if there is a bodhisattva who, through a single mind of anger, violates the precepts, the violation due to anger should be known as the most severe. Why is this? Because due to anger, one can abandon sentient beings." Up to the statement: "Regarding all the fetters that can generate affection, a bodhisattva should not fear them. Regarding all the fetters that can abandon sentient beings, a bodhisattva should have great fear of them." Up to the statement: "If a person of the Great Vehicle violates the precepts due to desire, I say that this person is not called a violator. Violating them due to anger is called a great fault, is called a great fall, and is a great obstacle within the Buddha-Dharma."
