> Regarding the Commentary's statement, "Later scholars still say that discussing existence conceals non-existence," this expresses the view of the Commentary on the Lotus Sūtra by the Master of the Mahāyāna \[Kuiji\]. His view is that when the Nirvāṇa Sūtra says "all sentient beings possess buddha-nature," it speaks generally of all possessing it in order to encourage sentient beings. In reality, clarifying it shows that there are also those who lack it, concealed within the general statement that all possess it. As for "the general and specific categories being different," the general characteristic is that all have it, but the specific distinctions distinguish existence and non-existence; existence and non-existence being different, they should not be treated as a single category.
