> Regarding the commentary's passage from "Therefore one knows from the preceding" downward: fifth, explaining the cited sūtras and treatises to establish the correct doctrine. In this there are two parts: first, explaining the intention of the Prajñāpāramitā and Saṃdhinirmocana sūtras. The intention clarifies that "fixed nature for a long time" and "lacking the nature for a long time" mean that beyond many kalpas those of fixed nature turn their minds, and beyond many kalpas it is stated that those without the nature possess it; therefore it says: "They are not eternally fixed nor eternally lacking." "Not eternally fixed" concludes the preceding śrāvakas; "not eternally lacking" concludes the icchantikas.
