> Regarding the commentary’s statement "Fourth, presenting seven similes to comprehensively demonstrate non-attachment," the seven similes are completely identical to that text. The treatise explains: "This demonstrates the dispelling of the non-existent characteristics of the self, and there are two explanations: First, the preceding seven phrases use non-existence to destroy existence, while the seven similes use existence to dispel non-existence, causing one not to cling to non-existence. Second, by analogy with what precedes, they also use non-existence to dispel existence; therefore, it states that the self is a non-existent characteristic. Phantoms, dreams, reflections, and images do not destroy the empty appearance, yet grasping \[them\] is unattainable."
