> Under the Commentary's statement, "Furthermore, the 'Chapter on Leaving the World'...," the second is citing the present sūtra. Regarding "as the body and so forth," "and so forth" encompasses the subsequent sūtra text. The subsequent sūtra states: "The four truths are his feet, right mindfulness is his neck, compassionate eyes and wisdom are his head, and the topknot is the ribbon of liberation. In the valley of ultimate emptiness, he roars the Dharma, terrifying the hordes of Māra." Regarding "not necessarily fixed as a rule," this introduces the metaphor and application below, which does not entirely depend upon the texts of the above two sūtras. Moreover, fascicle three of the \*Ratnamegha-sūtra\* also states: "Good son! Furthermore, there are ten dharmas that are like a lion. What are the ten? Namely: having no fear, not fearing the great assembly, never retreating once gone, being able to roar like a lion, being endowed with eloquence, delighting in dwelling in forests and wildernesses, abiding in mountain caves, subduing the great assembly, possessing heroic strength, and being skilled in guarding." It explains them at length. Therefore, this lion is again different from the above two sūtras, making it clear that the metaphor and its application need not be fixed as a rigid rule; one merely adopts whatever is convenient to the meaning.
