> Regarding the commentary's "only teaching personal emptiness" onward: clarifying the distinction between the two kinds of emptiness. Because their faculties are inferior, they are not yet capable of hearing the true principle of both kinds of emptiness taught. Fascicle forty-one of the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa states: "Because the Hīnayāna disciples have dull faculties, for their sake emptiness of sentient beings is taught." The Awakening of Faith states: "Those who grasp at views of self—relying on the dull faculties of the two vehicles, the Tathāgata only taught for their sake the selflessness of persons and so forth; even if both kinds of emptiness were spoken of, it was slight and not yet clearly revealed."
