The first half is humility and praise: the upper line praises, and the lower line is humble. The second half is pariṇāmanā directed to three destinations: first, pariṇāmanā to bhūtakoṭi; then two lines of pariṇāmanā to sentient beings and pariṇāmanā to bodhi. However, pariṇāmanā to bodhi has two meanings: first, accomplishing Buddha-bodhi oneself; second, causing others to accomplish it. Causing others to accomplish it is identical in meaning to pariṇāmanā to sentient beings. When a bodhisattva gives rise to the mind \[for awakening\], he does not expect to act for himself, but takes directing \[merit\] toward others as his own benefit; hence he causes all conscious beings together to realize bodhi.
