- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.29](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1760.1.29)

> Now, in explaining the six elements, they are divided into two intentions: the first three reveal Ānanda, and the latter three manifest the Lord of the Teaching. The first three are: first, Ānanda indicates what was heard, through 'Thus'; second, Ānanda manifests who was able to hear, through 'have I heard'; third, Ānanda points to the time of hearing, through 'at one time'. The latter three are: first, stating the glorious title of the Lord of the Teaching, through 'the Buddha'; second, clarifying the dwelling place of the Lord of the Teaching, through 'dwelling in Śrāvastī', and so forth; third, displaying the disciples and assembly of the master of transformation, through 'with a great assembly of bhikṣus', and so forth. Although divided into two intentions, in the end they accomplish Ānanda's verification of faith.
