阿彌陀經疏 1.30

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

言如是者，實相之理無二相稱如，絕百非曰是，經詮此理故云如是。又如是，只是指事之詞，謂如是淨土之教是我親聞故，次句即云我聞也。

> Regarding 'Thus' (\*ru shi\*): the principle of the true nature of reality is without duality of characteristics, which is termed \*ru\* ('suchness'); it cuts off the hundred negations, which is called \*shi\* ('right/is'). Because the sūtra elucidates this principle, it says 'Thus'. Moreover, 'Thus' is merely a phrase pointing to an event, meaning: 'The teaching of the Pure Land like this is what I personally heard'; therefore the next phrase says 'have I heard'.
