> Daosheng notes: If not hearing becomes hearing again, initially it seems that the doctrine could be maintained. But for hearing to turn into hearing again is an immense stumbling block. Sengliang says: This is the second objection. Sengzong says: This is a decisive objection. If the principle of not hearing could be forcibly obtained, bodhi could also be forcibly obtained. He then takes up the Buddha's intention: if it could also be forcibly obtained, why do the bodhisattvas of the ten abodes, who do not yet see the buddhadhātu clearly, not forcibly understand it clearly? Baoliang says: He borrows bodhi to make a decisive point. If bodhi cannot be forcibly obtained, how could the principle of not hearing be forcibly heard?
