> Sengliang comments: "Having expounded the benefits of signless nirvāṇa, since the benefit is obtained through causes, he therefore asks. 'From time to time cultivate and assemble' up to 'these are called the three signs': one is the time of cultivation, and one is the time when one should cultivate. Concentration can remove distraction, wisdom removes inversions, and equanimity regulates slowness and haste; asking in summary to bring forth the essentials, these three are the essential practices of nirvāṇa." Baoliang comments: "The eighth passage on cultivating the Way brings forth the persons capable of cultivating the Way, clarifying that bodhisattvas at all times cultivate the three dharmas of concentration, wisdom, and equanimity; hence it says 'from time to time.'"
