> Sengliang states: This opens the gate of the past determinate teaching. Sengzong states: The past teaching that heavy retributions cannot be altered was a determinate teaching given because people lacked faith. If one thoroughly investigates the principle, it is not like that. It is not that karma fails to obtain a fruit, but rather that there are other conditions that release one from its former fruit; hence it is said that it can be transformed. Baoliang states: Originally, it was spoken for the lowest fools who lack wisdom. Because sentient beings within it did not believe in obtaining fruits, it was proclaimed to be determinate.
