> Sengliang states: If it had an intrinsic nature, its nature could not be destroyed; because it has no intrinsic nature, it is called unstable. As for being named space: having no nature and no phenomena, yet nonexistent phenomena having a function, its nature is identical with space, so it is named accordingly. Regarding food going down and circulating: it says that when all sounds and the two existences follow each other, food cannot go down and sound does not issue forth; because absence of the one allows food to go down and sound to issue forth, this speaks of the function of space. Deluded people, hearing that space has a function, claim that there is a phenomenon of space, subsumed under the sphere of mental objects or the sphere of form.
