> Sengliang states: This refers to the wisdom of cultivation. Seeking the principle ever more deeply, wishing thereby to eliminate delusions, is compared to entering the water to search for the jewel. Fayao states: This refers to the wisdom of contemplation. Investigating the teaching ever more deeply is the meaning of entering the water. Having lost the intent, one should seek it; reasoning indicates it must be so, without expressing its underlying purpose. Sengzong states: Previously, there was a loss within the principle; now there is also a search within the principle. Why? The understanding of permanence is a superior practice within the principle; how could people not have the wish to seek what is superior? Baoliang states: Attaining contemplation from hearing is metaphorically expressed as 'entering'.
