> Daosheng comments: Of ordinary people's misguided graspings, there are altogether three; this is the first of them. Although without a master, relying on the goodness of reading and reciting, they may receive \[rebirth among\] humans and gods and reckon it as bliss: this is the first misguided grasping. Sengliang comments: Being near to the Holy One in time, they still obtain the provisions of humans and gods. Fayao says: Although lacking the essential path of release, they also obtain a small measure of goodness, which is compared to milking and taking it. Baoliang says: Although lacking the upāya of wisdom, it is not that they do not receive and uphold it with a mind grasping at signs.
