- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.167](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1764.1.167)

> Therein, the first verse celebrates obtaining a human body. "How joyful to gain this benefit!" is an expression of celebration and joy. Below, it brings out what is celebrated: properly obtaining a human body reveals what he himself obtained; obtaining a body and cultivating good is therefore called properly obtaining. Eliminating greed and the like clarifies what he himself avoided: "eliminating greed, wrath, and the like" clarifies cutting off the cause of evil—raising the elimination of greed and wrath encompasses being free from delusion; "permanently leaving the three evil \[destinies\]" clarifies being free from the suffering fruit. Relying on the six-fascicle sūtra, this means being free from the suffering of the Naraka hell. Now, because the human body is superior to the three wretched realms, it therefore says "permanently leaving the three evil destinies."
