- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.62](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1764.1.62)

> Next, listing the bodhisattvas, the text also has three parts, the same as with the bhikṣus. In the first part there are four: first, listing the assembly; second, briefly praising their virtue; third, listing their names; fourth, broadly praising their virtue. In first listing the assembly, 'one Ganges' cites the number. 'Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas' designates the distinctiveness of the assembly. 'Bodhisattva' is Sanskrit; translated here it is called 'way-sentient-being': this person seeks the Way, internally cherishes the practice of the Way, and uses the Way to mature people, hence called 'way-sentient-being'.
