> Another question: How do inverted conceptions differ from the preceding four entrenchments and ignorance, such that they separately request their severance? Explanation: Inverted conceptions arise from ignorance and are the causes belonging to the four entrenchments; therefore they separately request their severance. How is this known? As the Bodhisattvabhūmi says: "Suchness as it truly is, ordinary fools do not know, and give rise to eight false conceptions." Thus we know that inverted conceptions arise from ignorance; and that very text explains that the eight false conceptions can give rise to matters of views, conceit, craving, anger, and delusion; thus we know that inverted conceptions are the causes of the four entrenchments.
