- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.21](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1764.2.21)

> Regarding the first request, first an analogy is established: the "emperor" is a simile for the Buddha; "knowing the end, grants an act of grace so that the prisoners are freed" is an analogy for the Buddha approaching extinction and being obliged to teach living beings to eradicate ignorance; from "The Tathāgata now" onward, drawing on the analogy, they beseech the Buddha; from "We now" onward, they show that they have not yet escaped, inquiring and requesting the Buddha to remain.
