- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [4.22](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1764.4.22)

> In the second turn, all three lines are present. "If one speaks of impermanence" is the first line, citing the Buddha's past words. "Ordinary persons calculate impermanence, like an unbaked clay vessel" is the second line. Here the śrāvakas are called ordinary persons; following the words and grasping at marks, they calculate that everything is impermanent, as illustrated by the simile of the unbaked vessel. This text is slightly abbreviated; according to the previous, it should say: "Furthermore, they are unable to know that the body has the nature of permanence"; not knowing the nature of permanence is precisely confusion about reality. From "A person of wisdom" onwards is the third line. "Should distinguish" generally exhorts distinguishing; from "should not" onwards specifically teaches distinguishing. "Should not say that everything is entirely impermanent" exhorts abandoning grasping at marks; from "Why is this?" onwards teaches causing them to know reality. Saying "Why is this?" questions the preceding to introduce the following: why should one not say that everything is impermanent? In my "body there is the seed of buddha-nature" directly teaches them with reality.
