> Regarding the explanation of brahma-practices in terms of the four immeasurables, the text has five distinct sections: first, briefly indicating that loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity are brahma-practices; second, from "Kāśyapa addressed \[the Buddha\]: 'If one cultivates much...'" downward, settling their number; third, from "The immeasurable mind is of four kinds" downward, determining superiority and inferiority with reference to the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna; fourth, from "Could there be a bodhisattva who attains loving-kindness, compassion, and sympathetic joy that are not great?" downward, clarifying the characteristics of their cultivation and fulfillment, which may also be called determining the division into great and small; fifth, from "Kāśyapa addressed \[the Buddha\]: 'Removing what is unprofitable and granting benefit and bliss...'" downward, clarifying that the four immeasurables have actual benefits and are not in vain.
