> The above five specifically elucidate the essence of the practices. There is yet another practice, called 'Tathāgata practice', which explains the basis of practice—meaning that one cultivates and enters upon it in reliance on the previously perfected virtues of the Tathāgata. Alternatively, the five practices are the practices taught in the doctrine, while revealing the nature to accomplish practice is the Tathāgata practice; because the Tathāgata-nature is revealed in order to accomplish practice, the five practices cultivated rely upon it for their accomplishment, and therefore it must be explained. Drawing an analogy to the praise of the sūtra in the wisdom section below, it seems similar: it means that the \*Nirvāṇa Sūtra\* points to the real by means of the explanatory text, and since real virtues are difficult to reveal, they are expressed through the explanatory text. Just as in the text below, where the sūtra's superiority is praised after the various practices, one should know that this reveals the Tathāgata practice. This concludes the first section.
