This is the effect belonging to the preceding twelve links of dependent origination: the principle of dependent origination is manifested as this effect, which is called great nirvāṇa. The aforementioned bodhi, viewed in relation to the preceding cause, has already received the name "effect"; nirvāṇa is the effect of that effect, and hence is called an effect-of-effect. In principle and in reality, bodhi and nirvāṇa both possess the meanings of natural purity and expedient means; yet here in the text, the effect of expedient means is specifically named bodhi, and the effect of natural purity is specifically called nirvāṇa.
