### [26.11](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1767.26.11)

> From the passage beginning with "At that time, the six masters, having traversed the six cities..." onward, it secondly explains that upon reaching Kuśinagara they were pursued everywhere and did not know where to go. They had considered Kuśinagara to be small and narrow, intending to maintain their safety and abide there, not anticipating that the Buddha would come. In this text there are three parts: first, false teachings; second, true teachings; third, debate between the false and the true. The first part concerns the heterodox masters arriving at the city of Kuśinagara, where they extensively spoke of the Buddha's faults, causing people to give rise to heterodox views. The sūtra text says: "Since the mother was an illusion, the child could not be otherwise." What is the meaning of this? The meaning is: the human process of birth naturally has its standard norms; why then was he born from the right armpit? Is this not an illusory mother giving birth to an illusory child? In the second part, the Buddha arrives and expounds the true \[teaching\]. Repelling the false and returning to the true, the false and the true each proceed on their own courses.
