- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [32.13](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1767.32.13)

> From "Śreṇika said: 'May the Great Compassionate One...'" downward is the fourth \[section\], submission. There are again four exchanges. Here, the first is entreating the Buddha to speak. The Buddha explained it broadly for him, speaking of the meaning of conceit along the way, intending to rebuke his original mind of conceit. From "Śreṇika said: 'So it is, so it is...'" downward is the second, his comprehending the instruction. Because of this, the Tathāgata reiterated it, again in two parts: first an admonition, then the explanation. When it says 'neither self, nor other, nor sentient beings', it clarifies that phenomena and sentient beings are identical in equality. From "Śreṇika said: 'I have already understood...'" downward is the third, his obtaining understanding on his own, and because of this the Tathāgata further demanded that he state its characteristics. From "'World-Honoured One, as for what is called form...'" downward is the fourth, presenting his own understanding, again in two parts: first he relates it himself, then the Buddha summons him with 'Come, monk!' (ehibhikṣu) and he attains the purification of the wisdom eye. The term 'Dharma eye' refers to the first fruit. The term 'purification of the wisdom eye' refers to the fourth fruit. However, at the time of his discussion with the Buddha he had already attained the first fruit, and later when summoned with 'Come, monk!' he attained the fourth fruit.
