> Regarding the Great Master of Sheshan, he lectured only on the Sanlun and the Mahāprajñā, never opening the Nirvāṇa Sūtra or the Lotus Sūtra. When various scholars requested a lecture on the Nirvāṇa Sūtra, the Great Master said: "You all understand prajñā now; why make me lecture again?" When they repeatedly requested it, he merely spoke for them the verse on "originally having, now lacking," and in the end did not lecture on the text. Only from the time of Xinghuang onward did this scripture begin to be widely propagated.
