- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.364](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1775.1.364)

> \[Kumāra\]jīva says: This explains why he first establishes the superiority or inferiority of the land and only then performs the practice. If he acquired a land for himself, he should leave it to whatever the practice brings about; now, because it is for benefiting sentient beings, he institutes the land following what is suitable for beings. \[Seng\]zhao says: The dharmakāya has no fixed state; what land could it have? Beauty and ugliness are entirely external; what purity could be grasped? Acquiring a pure land is entirely for their sake; hence he acquires it in accordance with what is appropriate. \[Dao\]sheng says: 'Why' refers to the four clauses above. If he does not manufacture a land himself and also does not reside within their boundaries, only then can he bring sentient beings to fruition.
