Because the mind is constantly in samādhi, it can universally illuminate all things without relying on deduction to know them afterward. In the Hīnayāna, the mind has limits and obstacles, nor can it constantly remain in samādhi; whatever it observes is seen when in samādhi and not seen when out of samādhi. Moreover, those of the śrāvakas whose power of samādhi is deep see the roots of sentient beings up to eighty thousand kalpas, while those whose power of samādhi is shallow see only a few lifetimes; what the mahāsattva sees reaches to the infinite.
