- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [3.185](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1775.3.185)

> \[Kumāra\]jīva says: "Sin originally has no mark, yet one arbitrarily produces marks for it; this is false discrimination. False discrimination of itself produces defilement; it is not a fault of the principle." \[Seng\]zhao says: "Upāli differentiated the marks of sin wishing to remove defilement; sin originally has no mark, yet he falsely produced marks of sin, which only increased defilement. Although his words are general, his intention rests here." \[Dao\]sheng says: "Defilement does not truly exist. It is only defilement in the midst of false discrimination; if there is no false discrimination, defilement is itself purity. 'False discrimination' means the thoughts of erroneous distinction."
