- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [3.57](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1775.3.57)

> \[Seng\]zhao says: If one can awaken to the fact that defilement is not defilement, then though defiled, one is pure; if one regards purity as purity, then though pure, one is defiled. Therefore, being identified with defilement and separated from purity is precisely how one is constantly pure. \[Dao\]sheng says: For one who enters false views and is born in the eight conditions of adversity, there are no fetters that do not arise; dragged by defilements, he cannot differentiate himself from them, and drifts ever farther from pure dharmas. In conforming \[to the real\], once one abides within the principle of the eight conditions of adversity, the mind is fused with the principle of defilement; this very thing is purity, and there is no longer any purity that cannot be departed from.
