> \[Dao\]sheng says: Subhūti is foremost among men in attaining the non-contentious samādhi. The non-contentious samādhi means understanding that emptiness leaves no grounds for dispute, which is 'non-contentious.' Vimalakīrti's sharp eloquence was hard to match, and few dared peer into his doorway; yet Subhūti, possessing this concentration, was alone able to visit him, which was an external sign of relying on concentration. Having the external sign of relying on concentration and thereby incurring questioning—how could it not be so?
