- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [4.34](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1775.4.34)

> \[Seng\]zhao says: Suchness is neither not arising and ceasing, nor does it have arising and ceasing. Because it is not devoid of arising and ceasing, one provisionally speaks of a prophecy; because it does not have arising and ceasing, one knows there is no prophecy. \[Dao\]sheng says: Suchness is the dharma of awakening to the principle; hence he directly clarifies it thereby. Once the principle is already such, how could there still be arising and ceasing of suchness? If it lacks arising and ceasing, it cannot be different from those who have not yet embodied it; how could it alone be taken as the cause of the unsurpassed Way? If it is not the cause, one cannot receive a prophecy by means of it.
