- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [4.46](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1775.4.46)

> \[Seng\]zhao says: On the impartial Way, in truth there is none who generates the mind nor any who retrogresses. Yet why entice them to generate the mind through non-retrogressing practice and display to them an auspicious prophecy? \[Dao\]sheng says: He clarifies that one should not hold on to practice. Because there is retrogression in generation, one requires non-retrogressing practice. Since there is neither generation nor retrogression, what use is practice? If one detests retrogression within generation and requires non-retrogressing practice, one still has not escaped retrogression, and this is not the means of non-retrogression.
